Race Weekend 2009

The Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival began in 1993 and has since grown to be North America’s largest. This year marks the 16th annual event and they're happy to be represented by Ottawa’s three largest media groups: CTV, CHUM & The Ottawa Citizen. It's a non-profit festival with free admission for spectators which is held at Mooney’s Bay Park on Riverside Drive in Ottawa.

Every year over 65,000 people attend during the 3 days and their experience is made enjoyable by some 400 volunteers. To help create a fun and festive atmosphere, festival organizers bring the best in multicultural live music, cultural presentations and ceremonial activities to Money's bay.

With over 190 teams, a whopping 5000 paddlers from all over Canada, there's a new set of racers on the starting line every 9 minutes vying for one of the 15 challenge cups, including the prestigious Breast Cancer Survior Challenge.

In previous years the dedicated paddlers of the Ottawa Dragon Boat festival have raised over $1,500,000 for 20 local charities which is managed through the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation.

The fundraising goal for 2009 is $300,000, a number that's easily reachable with your help!

To get things started on the right foot, Team Showboat is proud to announce our first fundraiser for the season.

Come enjoy traditional Celtic music and celebrate the holiday season with friends! You'll be kickin' up your heels when the Fumblin' Fingers start playing traditional music from the east coast and beyond.

The Earl of Sussex and Moosehead Breweries are teaming up to provide samplers and discounts on Moosehead products.

Have a really ugly Christmas sweater? Wear it and you might win a prize! If you don't have one, head to your local second hand store and I'm sure you'll find some gems. And even if you don't have an ugly sweater you might win a prize just for showing up!

Race Weekend 2008

The Ottawa Dragon Boat Race Festival is a two-day event with races on Saturday and Sunday. Your team entry fee entitles you two races on Saturday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and you may advance to the finals on Sunday depending on your qualifying time. Your best time from your two races on Saturday is used to determine whether you advance to the Sunday races. The top 75 teams from Saturday will advance. Depending on the make-up of your team, you may qualify to participate in a Challenge Cup. If you do qualify under a particular Challenge Cup category, that race will count as one of your two Saturday races. See Challenge Cups for a full listing of competitions.

For those who don't qualify for one of these Cups, you will still get to race twice on Saturday.
